I-35 Capital Express Central Community Working Group (CapEx VOICE)

CapEx VOICE is the community working group for the I-35 Capital Express Central project. This in-person meeting will provide an overview of the reconstruction of the Lady Bird Lake bridge and discussion of park impacts and trail detours during construction.

I-35 Capital Express Central Aesthetics Meeting

Date: April 11, 2023

On Tuesday, April 11 at 5:30 p.m., TxDOT will host the ninth VOICE meeting in the series, with a focus on corridor aesthetics through downtown. The proposed aesthetic concepts are meant to reflect the community and neighborhoods along I-35, including  

• Holly Street 
• Cesar Chavez Street 
• 6th Street 
• 11th Street 
• Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard 
• Dean Keeton Street 
• 32nd Street 
• Cherrywood frontage road 
• 41st Street 
• Airport Boulevard

I-35 Capital Express Central Public Hearing

Date: February 9, 2023

The Texas Department of Transportation will host a virtual public hearing with an in-person option to gather input on proposed improvements on I-35 from US 290 East to US 290 West/State Highway 71. The purpose of the public hearing is to request public comment on the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and to present the Preferred  Alternative.

El Departamento de Transporte de Texas llevará a cabo una audiencia pública virtual con una opción en persona para recoger opiniones sobre las mejoras propuestas en la I-35 desde la US 290 East hasta la US 290 West/State Highway 71. El propósito de la audiencia pública es solicitar comentarios del público sobre el borrador de la Declaración de Impacto Ambiental (EIS) y presentar la Alternativa Preferida.

The public meeting is being held at the Davage-Durden Student Union. Parking is available on Chalmers Avenue opposite gated entrance. The campus is also accessible via CapMetro transit bus routes 4 and 322 as well as the MetroRail Red Line.

Please join us for the third meeting of CapEx VOICE, the community working group for the I-35 Capital Express Central project. Due to expressed interest from members of the working group, this meeting will focus on the Urban Land Institute’s recommendations to create caps, also known as lids or deck plazas, and stitches, which are sometimes defined as wide bridge crossings. As a follow-up to the last meeting, TxDOT will also provide an update on improvements for people walking and riding bicycles.

Community involvement is essential to this project’s success. CapEx VOICE will build upon outreach that has already been conducted, allowing the public a more in-depth role in the process. Meetings of CapEx VOICE will be held throughout the remainder of the environmental process. If you choose to participate, we encourage you to attend every meeting. Participation is open to all. You are welcome to share this invitation with other community members.
